P.A. police charge man with aggravated assault after seriously injuring Shoppers employee

Dec 1, 2023 | 6:45 PM

Prince Albert police have charged a man following an altercation at one of the community’s Shoppers Drug Marts.

On Monday, a staff member at the 2nd Ave W location confronted a customer who was allegedly shoplifting. A confrontation ensued which resulted in the employee being seriously injured.

A source close to the incident told paNOW the staff member was punched and while wrestling with the suspect, was slammed to the floor which resulted in them having a seizure.

They ended up needing to be transported to Saskatoon for treatment, however, they’ve since been released.

The man, who police did not name, was reportedly contained by a bunch of customers before police were able to arrest him. He’s since been charged with aggravated assault.

Loblaw Companies Limited, which owns Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, told paNOW they can’t discuss the matter at this time.

“We understand this is now a police investigation, so we can’t comment,” read a statement from Loblaw Public Relations.

Meanwhile, the man was in a Prince Albert courtroom earlier this week. He’s since been released from custody with conditions..
