Give a Little Life Day back to raise funds for P.A.’s Victoria Hospital

Nov 30, 2023 | 5:00 PM

UPDATE: As of 5 p.m., the total raised for the radiothon is $449,444.12

It’s that time of year again in Prince Albert.

The Give a Little Life Day Radiothon is happening on Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with all funds raised being used to ensure people can receive the best care possible at the Victoria Hospital.

The last two fundraisers were able to raise over $590,000: $351,000 in 2021 and $239,000 in 2022.

“Every donation counts, the need in the hospital is so various and vast,” said Cody Barnett, the CEO of the Boreal Healthcare Foundation.

In the past, funds raised during the Give a Little Life Day Radiothon have helped purchase equipment for the operating room, emergency room, ICU, and maternity ward.

The funds raised this year will help with the purchase of vital life-saving specialized equipment that contributes to faster diagnosis and more efficient treatment.

Preparations for the Victoria Hospital Expansion project started earlier this year. The plan is for the hospital to become the northern hub for medical care, decreasing the time people in remote communities would need to travel to get proper care.

“[This hospital] is a lifeline for them, the difference between life or death,” said Malcolm Jenkins, a member of the Boreal Healthcare Foundation’s Board of Directors.

The Radiothon will take place on Power 99 FM, 101.5 Beach Radio, and 900 CKBI. Throughout the 12 hours, doctors and nurses at the hospital will share stories about how important

People can make in-person donations at Mann-Northway or online on the Boreal Healthcare Foundation’s website.
