New podcast features life and times in Northern Sask.

Northlands College launched the podcast series Northern Voices on Monday.

The series, an in-house production, is designed to uncover untold stories of strength, culture, and resilience that shape the vibrant communities of Northern Canada. It aims to provide a platform for people from the North to share their unique narratives, as well as shed light on the distinctive roots and opportunities that define the region.

Through in-depth conversations with community leaders, educators, and individuals, the series will showcase the opportunities that Northern Saskatchewan has to offer.

“At Northlands College, we are not just an educational institution, we are a member of northern communities,” Northlands President and CEO Karsten Henriksen stated in a media release.

Northern Voices is our way of amplifying the stories of people, communities, sustainability, and unique opportunities that exist in the North.”

Henriksen noted through the podcast, the college is inviting individuals, companies, and organizations to collaborate with northern communities. He believes that Indigenization is a necessary step for the future of the North.

“Positive change should come from the North, for the North, by the North. This podcast series serves as a tribute to the strength and unity of our communities, fostering a deeper understanding of the northern way of life,” he said.

Northern Voices will kick off with episodes focusing on Northern Saskatchewan, featuring compelling stories and insights from community leaders. The series promises a diverse range of topics, including cultural richness, economic opportunities, and the challenges faced in the North.

The first episode was released on Monday and features an interview with Athabasca Sask. Party MLA Jim Lemaigre. Episodes are between 15 to 20 minutes in length and the target audience is everyone.

Episodes will be aired every two weeks on the college’s social media platforms.
