Kinsmen Ski and Snowboard Centre set to open for season on Saturday

Nov 25, 2023 | 8:00 AM

Skiers and snowboarders alike will be at Little Red River Park this weekend as the Kinsmen Ski and Snowboard Centre is set to open on Saturday.

According to Operations Manager Nathan Stregger, it will be one of the first skiing and snowboarding runs opening in the province this season.

“We got the right temperatures in late October and early November,” he said. “It gave us a good head start and I think we’ll be the only ones open for a while.”

He added that he expects people from across Saskatchewan to come and enjoy the Park this weekend.

Due to the lack of snowfall in the area, workers at the Park were using a pair of snowmakers to fill the hills which uses pressurized water with a warm air compressor to create ice crystals.

Additionally, Stregger said that crews were working overnight for eight straight nights in order to produce enough snow to be ready by Saturday.

“We’ve perfected [the snowmakers] over the years so we’re pretty confident that when we start making snow, we’re going to make a good amount.”

Daily, weekend, monthly, and season lift passes are available for purchase while half-day passes are also an option. Ski and snowboard rentals are also available at various prices, along with skiing and snowboarding lessons.

The Kinsmen Ski And Snowboard Centre is open weekdays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Little Red River Park.
