Prince Albert theatre group’s final curtain presents opportunity for other community groups

After 64 years of Theatre Entertainment, Prince Albert Community Players is bowing out but not before helping some other groups in the area..

The theatre group received two applications for request of their assets (Cash, Set, Costumes, and stage props). Kinasao Lutheran Bible Camp receives $1,000, which will go toward their children’s summer Drama/Theatre Camp

Odyssey Productions Inc will receive the Set, Costumes and stage props, and over $5,300 cash.

“It’s a sad day for Prince Albert community players but it’s bittersweet and the sweetness is that we are helping other drama and theatre groups in our area and that warms my heart,” PACP member Melody Kennedy told paNOW.

The local theatre group once performed to packed houses across the city, providing evening shows and dinner theatre to thousands of people each year. In its 64 years of existence, it has performed over 140 shows.

But as Kennedy explained to paNOW in October, the pandemic dealt them a crushing blow.

“We had a play ready to go to stage in April of 2020 and in March, we got shut down and that really has hurt us and to try and grow membership since then has been very, very difficult.”

The last show the Prince Albert Players put on was in 2019, a production called “The Jack of Diamonds” and it was held at The Sisters of Presentation auditorium in the old Rivier Theater.

The Prince Albert Community Players were inducted into the local Arts Hall of Fame in 2019. Kennedy noted many of the members who are with Odyssey now, grew up in community players, whether it be acting, directing or production.
