Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has asked Canadian senators to pass legislative amendments that exempt some agriculture costs from the carbon tax.

The House of Commons recently passed amendments that would exempt the heating of barns and grain drying costs from the carbon tax. The amendments are now before the senate.

Moe said he believes the senate is blocking the amendments and has asked them to follow the will of MPs.

The federal government said the highly transmissible virus was found on a farm south of Winkler.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency declared a primary control zone in the area to prevent the spread of the virus.

This means that birds, their products, and their by-products can’t be moved into, out of or within the control zone without permission.

The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show Saskatchewan had the highest GDP growth in the country.

The agency reported Saskatchewan’s GDP grew by six per cent from 2021 to 2022.

Alberta came in second with five per cent growth, followed by Ontario with three-point-nine per cent growth.

The government of Saskatchewan said the main driver of growth in the province is agriculture and mining.
