Man charged with second-degree murder after incident at Montreal Lake CN

A man from Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after an incident on the reserve.

At around 3:15 Sunday morning, Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP received a request to help EMS at a residence on the reserve.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured man who was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. The victim was identified as 41-year-old Kevin Stewart from Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

A short investigation was conducted which led to police arresting a man at the scene. As a result, 29-year-old Walker Smith is charged with one count each of second-degree murder and uttering threats.

Smith is remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Tuesday.
