The Edmonton Oilers announced on Sunday that they have relieved assistant coach and former Prince Albert Raider Dave Manson of his coaching duties after the team’s slow start to the season.

Also getting the boot on Sunday was Oilers head coach Jay Woodcroft, who is set to be replaced by Hartford Wolf Pack head coach Kris Knoblauch while replacing Manson will be Paul Coffey.

Manson, who hails from Prince Albert, spent a total of five seasons as an assistant coach with the Oilers organization, three with the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL and two in Edmonton. Prior to that, he was behind the bench for the Prince Albert Raiders as an assistant coach in two separate stints, from 2002-2009 and 2011-2018. Between that gap, he was an assistant coach for the Prince Albert Mintos.

During his playing career, Manson played three seasons for his hometown Raiders from 1983-1986 and was a member of the 1985 Memorial Cup winning team. He was drafted 11th overall in the 1985 NHL draft by the Chicago Blackhawks where he went on to play 20 seasons in the NHL for seven different teams.

At the time of this article, the Oilers are 31st in the standings sitting only ahead of the San Jose Sharks with a 3-9-1 record.
