A local organization aimed at stopping impaired driving is grateful for recent donations made by Prince Albert High School students.

Earlier this week, MADD Prince Albert received a donation of $1,675 from the St. Mary High School Safe Grad Committee.

Karen Anthony Burns, one of the directors of MADD Prince Albert said the donation will go towards providing incentives for people at check stops and continuing their work year-round.

“Those funds really help us to keep operating throughout the year and we really appreciate that the students see the value of our work in stopping impaired driving and supporting victims of that violent crime,” she said.

Building on that statement, Burns said it was gratifying to see that the students came together and made the donation showing that young people care about stopping impaired driving.

“It just gives us real hope for the future and that these students are being responsible and making responsible choices at an early age. Let’s hope that we are changing the narrative for the future.”

The students from the Safe Grad Committee were from the Class of 2023 at St. Mary High School and Burns noted that they weren’t the only group of graduates that have contributed to MADD.

“I was just heading off to Toronto and we received a donation from the Saint Mary Grad Committee, which is a different group,” she said. “We’re really, really thankful for the great support we’re getting out of Saint Mary High School and we see that as such a positive.”

MADD Prince Albert is already getting ready for its upcoming campaigns over the Christmas season.

“We know there’s a lot of Christmas parties and things happening,” she said. “So just reminding people, please always make a plan and do not drive impaired.”
