Battleford schools prepare for Remembrance Day

Nov 3, 2023 | 5:00 PM

Do you have your poppy?

With Remembrance Day fast approaching, local schools in the Living Sky School Division are once again preparing to honour those who fought and died for our freedom.

To help the next generation carry on the knowledge and ensure “Lest we forget” doesn’t become a quote of the past, special assemblies will once again bring students, teachers, parents, community members, and veterans together to learn and share history.

Here is what is happening at some of the schools in the district:

  • At Bready Elementary, the service will take place at 10:45 a.m. on Fri., Nov. 10, and will be hosted by the Grade 6 class. “In Flanders Fields” will be recited and the class band will perform. Members of the School Community Council and the board of education will be on hand to help lay wreaths.
  • North Battleford Comprehensive High School will also host their program on Fri., Nov. 10, and the program will feature videos, a legion representative from Branch 70 will offer an invocation, they will have live music and members of the school community will lay wreaths.
  • St. Vital Catholic School will host their assembly at 10:50 a.m. on Thurs., Nov. 9, and will be joined by a member of the legion.
