River Riders fall in KFL semi-final to Titans

Oct 30, 2023 | 2:00 PM

After another successful season in the Kinsmen Football League (KFL), the Bantam River Riders were looking to get back into the championship game last weekend.

Unfortunately, their run at a second straight title ended on Saturday as they fell 31-7 to the Titans in the semi-final.

Despite beating the Titans earlier this year, River Riders head coach Joey Hemsworth said their opponents were ready for the rematch.

“They made some adjustments, and we didn’t do the right adjustments and came up short,” he said. “We started off the game really poorly, gave up two quick scores and we just couldn’t get back in the game. But the kids put up a great effort, they played til the final whistle.”

Some of the Bantam River Riders from last year’s undefeated team returned this year, bringing some great experience to the lineup.

Regardless of the outcome, Hemsworth said it was a great season for the team.

“Proud of another successful season for Prince Albert Minor Football. Hopefully that carries on and we keep having these types of seasons.”

Meanwhile, the peewee River Riders season came to a close on Oct. 21 when they fell 48-7 to the Titans.

The Bantam Titans will meet the Raiders in the KFL Championship on Nov. 5.
