Wanted suspect arrested, accused of assaulting Prince Albert police officers

Oct 25, 2023 | 12:00 PM

A man who has been on the run from police for over a week after skipping out on a scheduled trial date, is back in custody and facing a long list of new charges.

Germaine Michel, 31, was arrested on Monday and appeared the following morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

His most recent charges have to do with an incident on Monday. According to a statement from the city’s police service, just prior to 4 p.m.,members of the Criminal Investigation Division observed a stolen SUV in an alley in the 1500 Block of McIntosh Drive.

Earlier in the day, officers attempted to stop the stolen SUV, however, the male driver disregarded police and actively tried to evade apprehension.

Once police again located the stolen SUV, it was contained by two unmarked police vehicles. Investigators identified themselves as police officers to the driver and advised him he was under arrest.

The male suspect then attempted to flee and drove into the police vehicles, causing damage. Marked patrol units arrived on scene and assisted with the arrest. During the incident a window was broken on the stolen SUV and pepper spray was deployed to gain control of the suspect.

In relation to the incident, Michel faces six counts of assault on a police officer, including three involving carrying, use of or threat to use a weapon.

He’s also been charged with resisting arrest, dangerous driving, criminal negligence, and possession of a stolen vehicle over $5,000.

Previous to his arrest on Monday, Michel was scheduled to appear for trial on Oct. 12 and was released the previous Friday.

In relation to the alleged offence from Jan. 9, 2023, Michel was charged with failing to stop a motor conveyance while being pursued by police; dangerous driving; assaulting three Prince Albert police officers while resisting arrest, and breach of a previous probation order.

Trial dates of Nov. 1 and Dec. 1 had also been previously scheduled for other matters and charges relating to guns, resisting arrest and vehicle theft.
