Timberjaks gaining confidence after first win in team history

Oct 17, 2023 | 2:00 PM

The Prince Albert Timberjaks, the city’s newest hockey team, picked up its first win over the weekend, a 9-1 drubbing of the Richardson Pioneer Southern Rebels.

“Obviously we wanted to get that first win under our belts,” said Team President Ken Malenfant. “It helps the boys in terms of confidence and knowing that they can play in this league. We knew that all along, but it was just a matter of feeling that winning spirit under our belt and we have that gut feeling now that we belong.”

“Lots of excitement from the room after and we celebrated. The boys had steaks that night so we treated them special. It was a special night, absolutely,” he said.

The team now has a 1-4 record heading into a pair of home games this weekend in the Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL).

Malenfant added that the team is really starting to gel.

“We’ve got a great bunch of guys and they all get along really well,” he said. “Haven’t had a lot of wins yet. Sometimes it’s hard to keep the room in check, but that hasn’t been the case at all. Everyone’s pulling on the rope.”

“They’re all playing hard and it’s a team mentality.”

The Timberjaks’ next game is this Friday at home when the team hosts the undefeated Delisle Chiefs at the Northern Recreation Rec Centre, just north of Prince Albert.
