River Riders ready to close out season in style after productive weekend

Oct 16, 2023 | 3:44 PM

With just one game left in the regular season, the River Riders are looking to make their mark in the Kinsmen Football League.

The Bantam and Peewee River Riders were in action on Sunday with both games on home turf in Prince Albert.

The Bantam River Riders put on an offensive show against the Babineau Warriors winning 43-0. Unfortunately, the Peewee team didn’t have the same success as they were shut out by the ARN Falcons 28-0.

But according to Taras Kachkowshki with Prince Albert Minor Football, that score doesn’t the whole story, adding offensively, it was one of the best games they’ve played all season.

“What the zero score doesn’t show you is the incredible effort that these kids are putting in. We faced a third and 30 at one point and almost converted it.”

Kachkowski noted that 28 points is the fewest the Peewee River Riders have given up this season.

For the Bantams, the high-scoring affair showed Kachkowski that the team is just as strong as last year when they went unbeaten the entire season. He believes the team is just as hungry this year to reclaim the title.

“I’m confident that the Bantams will be in the top four and compete for a championship again.”

The final regular season game for both teams goes this Saturday in Saskatoon with both squads facing the Schoenhals Titans.

Kachkowski said both sides are even, making this a perfect end to the regular season.

“It’ll be an even match; it could go either way. I think it’ll be a good, positive way to end the season.”

Kickoff for the Peewee game goes at 1 p.m. with the Bantam game to follow at 3 p.m.
