Rumble in the Cage 66 takes place Saturday night in Lethbridge and Prince Albert’s Prince Kumar is involved in one of over a dozen scheduled amateur MMA fights.

The 31-year-old will face Calgary’s Curtis Anderson in a bantamweight contest (135lbs.) Kumar admitted to paNOW he was feeling a bit nervous, but added he’s been working hard to get ready.

“I worked out literally the last 43 out of 45 days and each day was more daunting than the last one so I’m hoping to do my best out there,” he said.

Kumar has a record of 0-1 and last fought in June of last year. Since that fight, he explained he’s been working more on his boxing and defense.

“I’m anticipating my opponent will bring it, he’s gonna come hard at me. It’s his first fight so I know the feeling of the first fight. You just want to come get some and I’m prepared for it,” Kumar said.

Kumar has a purple belt in jiu-jitsu and trains at North Wake Martial Arts in Prince Albert under instructor Lucian Phillips. He’s also been honing his boxing skills at the Thomas Settee Boxing Club. He acknowledged to be a successful MMA fighter, you have to have a well-rounded arsenal.

“If you are weak at one side of martial arts, then you are gonna get picked apart,” he said. ‘If you’re striking is not that good, then the guy is just gonna out strike you and not let you take him down.”

The event on Saturday night takes place at the Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre in Lethbridge.

There are 16 amateur bouts scheduled and three pro fights.

Also on the card are North Battleford’s Christian Pete and Seth Fiddler, who have respective amateur bouts.
