Raiders get back at Oil Kings with 4-1 triumph

After getting shut out 3-0 by the Edmonton Oil Kings on home ice earlier this week, the Prince Albert Raiders exacted their revenge when they visited Rogers Place on Saturday.

Although not a shutout, the Raiders still managed a similar three goal victory on the Oil Kings, winning 4-1.

The win is the second in as many nights for Prince Albert after their dominant 6-2 win Friday night in Red Deer against the Rebels.

Czechia import Matej Kubiesa led the way for the Raiders, scoring a goal and an assist while Carter Anderson got the monkey off his back by scoring his first of the year. Aiden Oiring and Ryder Ritchie also managed to light the lamp for the Raiders. Hayden Pakkala had a couple of assists along with Harrison Lodewyk and Tyrone Sobry. The point was Sobry’s first in the WHL.

On the opposite side of the scoreboard, Adam Jecho had the lone marker while Gavin Hodnett and Marc Lajoie collected the assists on the play.

Raiders netminder Max Hildebrand stopped 35 shots to earn the games first star while helping P.A. improve to 4-3-0-0 on the campaign.

In goal for Edmonton was Kolby Hay who turned aside 17 of 20 shots as the Oil Kings fall to 3-3-0-1 on the season.

It was the Oil Kings who got things started midway through the frame with Jecho potting his fifth of the season to give the home team the lead.

However, it didn’t take long for the Raiders to respond as they did so four minutes later. Oiring tickled twine to pull the game back to even heading into the second.

Prince Albert would gain the lead towards the halfway mark of the middle period thanks to a nifty play. Pakkala flipped the puck over a couple of Edmonton defenders to find Kubiesa for the partial breakaway where he made no mistake, cashing in on his second of the year to make it 2-1 Raiders.

Fast forward to the final five minutes and the Raiders added a pair. Anderson scored his first of the season off a tough angle shot before Ritchie slotted one into the empty net to help Prince Albert topple the Oil Kings, 4-1.

The Raiders are back at home for their next contest, hosting the Calgary Hitmen to kick off their season series on Friday night. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m.
