Common Causes of Financial Difficulty

Some of the most common causes of financial difficulty that we come across are:

· Relationship breakdown (divorce, separation);

· Increased interest rates and high cost of living;

· Physical or mental health related issues;

· Job loss or inconsistent employment;

· Business failure, including non-compliance with CRA and failure to pay taxes;

· Assistance of family members;

· Scams or fraud;

· Litigation issues;

· Drug/alcohol addiction;

· Gambling.

In terms of options available to you, it may be something as small as creating and using a budget. It could also mean looking into a consolidation loan. Many times, however, people need more formal options that can only be administered by a Licensed Insolvency Trustee, such as a consumer proposal or a bankruptcy.
