Raiders welcome Regina to Hockeytown North for Friday night clash

Sep 29, 2023 | 12:00 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders (1-2-0-0) are looking to get back to their winning ways in their Friday night showdown against the Regina Pats (2-0-1-0) at the Art Hauser Centre.

Following a strong start against Moose Jaw one week ago, the Raiders now find themselves on a two game skid. P.A. comes into the game on back-to-back losses, having fallen on Sunday in Saskatoon 4-2 and again on Wednesday in Brandon 4-3.

Regina on the other hand enters the night coming off a loss after having won their first two games of the season against Brandon and Saskatoon. The loss came on Wednesday in Moose Jaw by a 4-2 score. The game is also a homecoming match for the Pats newly named captain Tanner Howe, who currently sits in a tie for third in league scoring with six points (2g 4a).

Tonight’s contest is Prince Albert’s fourth consecutive against a divisional opponent. The Raiders will get their first taste of the Central Division on Tuesday night when the Edmonton Oil Kings visit the Art Hauser Centre.

Who to Watch

Forward Grady Martin potted himself a Gordie Howe hat trick in Brandon, scoring a goal and an assist while dropping the gloves in the first period. The 6’4 centre scored in the first period and the goal was also the third of his career. The Oyen, Alta. product now co-leads the Raiders in points with three.

Polish import Krzysztof Macias also netted a goal and an assist on Wednesday. The winger sits among the team leaders in scoring through the first three games with three points as well. Macias scored the Raiders third goal in P.A.’s 4-0 shutout of Moose Jaw last Friday.

Rookie Oli Chenier got the monkey off his back in P.A.’s last game. The Winnipeg native scored the first goal of his WHL career in Brandon, coming with eight minutes to go in the third. The point wasn’t his first at the major junior level though, as he potted an assist in the Raiders’ 4-2 loss to Saskatoon on Sunday.
