Prince Albert area business aims to open new doors for the north central area

The grand opening of a new business north of Prince Albert was appropriately marked on Thursday by the sawing in half of a two-by-four piece of wood.

Lake Country Co-op’s new “Homes by Lake Country” location off Red Wing Road, aims to expand the company’s Ready to Move (RTM) Home and custom-build presence in North Central Saskatchewan. Board President Rick Kindrachuk told the large crowd in attendance that the area will be a manufacturing site for RTM’s and also provide supply and install construction service.

“As well as general contracting to make your new home or your new cabin a reality,” he said.

Lake Country Co-Op has been building RTM’s for over thirty years. Citing the company’s slogan, you are at home here, CEO Tim Keller expressed excitement about the opening.

“This new location is here to work with future home purchasers who will trust us to make their dream homes a reality,” he said.

The new location covers six acres of land and will house state-of-the-art RTM show homes. The location also boasts a spacious 5,000-square-foot showroom that includes a custom design centre where customers can see and touch a wide selection of cabinets, blinds, windows, countertops, fireplaces, and faucets.

Noting the daily walk-ins they have currently, Brett Pisio, Director of Home and Building, said this facility will help meet the growing demand.

“Everybody is struggling to get contractors or people to come to their rural locations to do some of this work so if we can build on site and have it delivered I think it’s gonna help all of northern Saskatchewan,” he explained.

Jason Kaptein, Director of Planning for the Rural Municipality of Buckland confirmed for paNOW that since the onset of COVID, there has been an increase in demand for RTMs, adding they are a simpler solution in a rural setting.

“You don’t have a ton of different contractors, or your electricians coming out from the city. The house shows up and there’s minimal work done to be done on-site,” he said.

While also noting the benefits of shopping locally, Kaptein said prior to Thursday’s grand opening, a lot of these RTMs were coming from Warman or Hague.

To date, the business’s current location has provided six local people with employment.
