RCMP arrest wanted man in Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation

A man wanted by RCMP for more than a month has been arrested.

On Friday, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) circled a home in the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation after finding out that 31-year-old Craig McDonald was hiding there.

McDonald reportedly exited the home holding a loaded firearm, though officers were able to arrest him after deploying a conducted energy weapon.

RCMP then searched the property and found two additional loaded firearms.

“This arrest was a dynamic situation. The fact that no one was injured after a male exited a house holding a loaded firearm speaks to the professionalism and high level of training exhibited by the SERT and CIRT officers,” said S/Sgt. Ryan How, Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team’s (SERT) North Region Manager.

McDonald has since been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized, four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, one count of possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and four counts of failing to comply with a release order condition.

Two others were also arrested at the home with one being released without charge and the other, a 23-year-old from Sturgeon Lake, being charged with one count of failing to comply with a release order condition.
