Woman arrested, second suspect sought in armed robbery on Thursday

Sep 15, 2023 | 3:14 PM

It was a busy Thursday night for Prince Albert police who responded to two crimes simultaneously.

Officers were on their way to a weapons complaint at a business in the 3500 Block of 2nd Avenue West just after 6:00 p.m. when they were told of two suspects attempting an armed robbery.

When they got to the business, they found one woman with a gun who had been detained by witnesses before they got there, while a man fled on foot.

Brittany McKay, 29, has been charged with robbery with a gun, wearing a facemask while committing an indictable offence, breach of court order conditions and several other gun charges.

McKay will be back in court on Monday for her next appearance and has been remanded into custody until then.

A warrant has since been issued for the man who ran away.

While officers were searching for that suspect, a man matching his description ran from them at a home on the 200 Block of 27th Street East.

After a foot chase, officers arrested the man, who had a gun in his possession but confirmed he was not involved with the previous robbery.

That suspect, who has not been named as he has not made his first court appearance, is charged with resisting arrest, mischief, carrying a concealed weapon, breach of court order conditions and having a banned gun.

He will be in court on Sept. 18.

Police have confirmed that the incident is not connected to a recent armed robbery at St. Mary High School in which a visiting player was robbed then injured by gun shot.
