Federal Trade Minister Mary Ng’s office said she looks forward to seeing Saskatchewan Trade Minister Jeremy Harrison later this week for a federal-provincial-territorial ministerial meeting.

In a letter Premier Scott Moe released yesterday, Harrison wrote his peers have had a complete lack of updates on negotiations with India for an Early Progress Trade Agreement since at least late July.

Ng’s office did not dispute Harrison’s claim that Ottawa has left provinces in the dark about trade negotiations.

Her office said Canada’s trade ministers will be meeting as Team Canada and working together to deliver benefits for Canadians.

The federal and PEI governments plan to spend $46 million to support the island’s agriculture industry.

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay made the announcement with provincial Agriculture Minister Bloyce Thompson. MacAulay said the money will come from the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, which is a $3.5-billion, five-year agreement between the federal, provincial, and territorial governments.

Among other things, the cost-shared program will be used to encourage the development of land management practices for establishing perennial crops that help build soil and reduce erosion.

It will also help support the development of the livestock industry.

The product nomination deadline for the Grower Requested Own Use (GROU) program is Oct. 2.

GROU is a federal government program that allows growers to import equivalent U.S. versions of Canadian-registered crop protection products for their own use.

The Canadian Canola Growers Association is a member of the nomination committee that submits products for consideration.
