La Loche detachment commander wins international policing award
Staff Sgt. Jillian McLaren, the current detachment commander in La Loche and a 19-year officer with the RCMP, has received a 40 Under 40 Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
The award recognizes recipients that demonstrate exemplary leadership and commitment in the field of policing. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, McLaren’s extensive career has taken her all over Canada including British Columbia and the Yukon Territory.
According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, McLaren has held roles as a tactical training instructor, becoming the first female tactical police trainer in the province. She also previous served as a financial crimes investigator, detachment supervisor and major crimes supervisor.
“Seeing the success of those around me and having the opportunity to influence or contribute to that success is one of the most motivating aspects of my job,” McLaren, who declined an interview with larongeNOW, stated in a recent RCMP media release.
