Children and adults of all ages were at Mont St. Joesph Home on Sunday afternoon to witness the homes third annual ball drop fundraiser.

According to the homes Foundation Coordinator Jessica Gale, the fundraiser saw 2,290 golf balls get dropped totaling just over $22,000. She added that this year the money will go towards improving the home’s dining experience for its residents.

“This year, we’ve geared all of our fundraising efforts towards upgrading and redesigning the way we offer our meal plans in our home to make it more home-like, taking one more step away from that institutional feeling and really making this a sense of home,” she said.

Sunday wasn’t all about the ball drop either as Sept. 10 marks Grandparent’s Day across the country. Following the ball drop, attendees had the opportunity to listen to live music from the likes of Donny Parenteau and Wilf Savisky, take part in various games and activities and to cap it all off, a family barbecue.

Gale said that over the years, the event has grown in popularity and this year’s crowd of spectators for the ball drop was nothing short of record breaking.

“Every year the momentum for [the ball drop] seems to pick up and the crowd coming to watch seems to grow. This has been the most fantastic turnout that we’ve had,” she said.

Pattison Media was the platinum sponsor of the third annual Mont St. Joesph ball drop where they presented a cheque to the home for $5,000.
