North Stars’ fall camp begins Thursday

The Battlefords North Stars open their three-day fall camp Thursday evening at the Access Communications Centre.

The festivities will kick off with player registration and weigh-ins from 5-6 p.m., followed by a team meeting until 6:30 p.m.

From there, intrasquad scrimmage games will begin, running much of the three days, with a $5 admission charge for the public to attend until the Art Strueby Cup Top-40 Game, which will be free for all, Saturday night.

With between 70 and 80 players expected at camp this year between returning roster players, summer signings, and team hopefuls, head coach and G.M. of the Stars Brayden Klimosko said it’s always an exciting time of year to see what the players can show following another off-season of summer training.

“Obviously it’s been a really good offseason, but we’re excited to see the guys,” he said. “The guys that I’ve seen back are in good shape, the returning guys, and looking forward to the rookies to push our vets. It will be special and I’m looking forward to it.”

Thursday, Sept. 7 – Day 1

Scrimmage action will begin Thursday night, with all four teams taking to the ice for their opening intrasquad game.

Game 1 will feature Team 1 versus Team 2 from 7:00-8:15 p.m.

Game 2 will be Team 3 versus Team 4 from 8:30-9:45 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 8 – Day 2

Much of the day Friday will be dedicated to practice times for each team from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a return to scrimmage action in the evening.

Game 3 will feature Team 1 versus Team 3 from 7:30-8:45 p.m.

Game 4 between Team 2 and Team 4 will then wrap up the night from 9-10:15 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 9 – Day 3

The fifth game of the weekend will take place between Team 1 and Team 4 from 11:00-12:15 p.m. Saturday, followed by exit interviews with Teams 1 and 4.

The sixth game will be Team 2 versus Team 3 from 1:15-2:30 p.m., followed by exit interviews with Teams 2 and 3.

Saturday night, the camp will then conclude with the annual Top 40 Main Camp Black and Silver Game, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

To celebrate the North Stars’ 50th Anniversary season this year, the Stars’ Top 40 game will be known as the ‘Art Strueby Top 40 Cup’ in honour of the franchise founder.

Sunday, Sept. 10 – Pre-season begins

The North Stars will welcome the Kindersley Klippers to town for a Rookie Game on Sunday to open both teams’ pre-season schedule. Taking place at the ACC, puck drop will be at 2 p.m.
