Ermine seeks second victory at Calgary MMA event

Sep 6, 2023 | 1:28 PM

Coming off a win by unanimous decision, Sturgeon Lake’s Caleb Ermine aims to repeat.

He’ll face Nick Felber (0-1) Friday night at Unifed 52 in Calgary.

“I’m not going there with the mindset of I’m trying not to lose, I’m gonna fight to win,” he said.

Ermine’s last professional fight was in December, when he fought Edmonton’s Matt Kluke at Unified MMA 49. After three rounds, Ermine had his hands raised in victory. All three judges declared him the better man.

The road since though has not been smooth. Last July, Erine suffered a cracked ankle during the CSI Combate Submission Invitational in Regina. He explained he’s been working hard on developing strength and healing.

“I haven’t been able to run as much and do the cardio I need to but I’m ready to fight regardless,” Ermine said.

Noting his opponent’s hard pressure fighting style, and endless right hand, Ermine said he’s been working on countering strategies.

Unified 52 takes place at the BMO Centre in Calgary and weigh-ins are scheduled for Thursday. Noting he’s been bumped up to the main card, Ermine acknowledged the presence of some nerves.

“Because everyone is going to be watching now,” he said. “I’m gonna bring a win home for Prince Albert.”

Friday night’s event can be viewed through UFC Fight Pass. The prelims start at 6:30 p.m.
