MLA Hargrave welcomes return to cabinet

After a two-year absence, Prince Albert–Carlton MLA is happy to be back in the provincial cabinet.

Hargrave was appointed Minister of Saskbuilds & Procurement in a cabinet shuffle announced on Tuesday.

“It feels very good. I so much enjoy representing and serving the people of Prince Albert – Carlton and all of Prince Albert. It’s nice to serve not only Prince Albert but the whole province,” said Hargrave.

His new portfolio encompasses parts of every other ministry, he explained, as all buying goes through procurement.

That includes massive projects like the current expansion of the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert or schools and highways.

A background in business and finance, such as ownership of the Dodge and Hyundai dealerships in Prince Albert and two decades as a commercial banker will help him in the role.

“I’ve got lots of banking and business and that sort of experience and I would like to think that I can bring that to the job,” Hargrave said.

He still owns a dealership in Melfort.

In starting his new role, Hargrave said he’ll be focused on making sure projects go ahead and maximizing what is available to do the job.

In 2021, Hargrave resigned his position as Minister of Highways but remained a SaskParty MLA after travelling to Palm Springs to sell some property while travel was being discouraged by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic.
