Melfort’s Caitlyn Spratt is one of 12 recipients for this year’s 4-H Agriculture Scholarship as announced by 4-H Canada on Tuesday.

Spratt will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Bioscience at the University of Saskatchewan this fall.

“I was very excited and it allows me to further my education and helps me pursue my goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian,” Spratt said.

Spratt said she’s been involved in the 4-H club since she was six years old.

“It (the club) has allowed me to grow my passion for the livestock industry,” she said. “It’s had a big impact on my life through all of the events and things I can do and it’s given me a different outlook on life.”

Agriculture runs in Spratt’s family as she is now a fourth generation farmer.

She added she plans to apply for veterinary medicine in the future.

The only other Saskatchewan recipient was Devyn Tomolak of Aberdeen.

Each scholarship is worth $3,000 that each recipient can put toward post-secondary education in the agriculture, agricultural science, or agricultural business fields.
