The National Farmers Union has released its latest report on Agriculture Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Among the key findings of the report is that greenhouse gas emissions are up 41 per cent since 1990, with nitrogen fertilizer being a key contributor.

The report also found that emissions from fossil-fuel use are up, with diesel use doubling since 1990.

“Agriculture is much like every other sector of the Canadian economy: as a result of market forces and relatively inexpensive fossil fuels over the past century, we’ve adopted high-emission practices,” said NFU Director of Climate Crisis Policy and Action Darrin Qualman.

“But also like other sectors, there are many, many steps we can take to reduce those emissions.”

The union hopes the report and its data will help policymakers and farmers work together to develop effective government policies and programs to support and assist farmers as move to lower-emissions systems.

Three-Sixty Solar has unveiled the results of a survey that is looking into the possibility of building a fully working solar tower in the Edmonton area.

The survey showed that Cattail Crossing Golf and Winter Club signed a non-binding letter of intent indicating plans to install the tower to generate power for the facility.

The tower concept is a high-density, clean energy solution that uses up to 90 per cent less land space than conventional solar farms.

There’s no timeline as to when this project will be up and running but Three-Sixty Solar say they are satisfied with the report and the desire to get this tower built.

Quick Train Canada is introducing more than 100 new fully funded job-skills-related micro-credentials for workers looking to upskill for their existing jobs or reskilling for a new career.

The current Quick Train Canada course offerings focus on preparing people for work in the agriculture sector, natural resources, transportation, clean tech, construction, and other growing areas of the economy.

Since its launch in January 2023, Quick Train Canada has worked with its member colleges and key industry partners to understand the distinct challenges and economic characteristics of each region.

Courses are available to learners across Canada in a variety of formats, including online scheduled; online at your own pace; in-person, and hybrid teaching models.

New Holland Agriculture is introducing the first all-electric utility tractor with autonomous features.

Dubbed the T4 Electric Power, the tractor has a 110-kWh energy storage capacity in a 400V nominal high-voltage circuit, it provides 74 hp (55 kW) rated power and 65 hp (48 kW) PTO power.

The T4 Electric Power tractor will make its public debut at the Farm Progress Show starting Tuesday in Decatur, Illinois.

The tractor is anticipated to be commercially available in North America with select dealers in early 2024.
