Chiefs, veterans and other dignitaries were drummed into the main tent at the Chief Joseph Custer grounds in Prince Albert Monday morning.

The Prince Albert Grand Council is once again hosting the Gathering of Nations, which sees other Indigenous communities come from across western Canada.

Senator, Elder and former Chief of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, Peter Beatty, welcomed the people after the grand entry.

A full slate of events will be happening between now and Wednesday, when the gathering ends.

Today, a pie eating contest, potato sack races and scavenger hunt will precede events including a performance by comedian Emery Burning Grass, followed by the Magoo Crew.

Tuesday, there will be the Mr Band contest, trapper events and a Garbage Bag Bride and Groom contest.

Later tomorrow, hypnotist Jesse Lewis will take the stage and the final event of the day is a radioactive dance party.

The final day features a sweat lodge, Indian Car Contest and toilet paper mummies with a clean up contest finishing off the events.

All three days will have a variety of teepees set up, each with focused teachings in areas like Cree or Dene instruction and other culturally relevant topics.
