New RM of Prince Albert centre is the ‘dawn of a new era’

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Prince Albert is in its new home and celebrated the time and effort that went into creating it with a grand opening ceremony.

Reeve Eric Schmalz said that great care was taken to find the location, at the junction of Highways 2 and 11.

“This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to a collective vision, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the growth and prosperity of our community.”

He added that its location in The Junction – one of two new subdivisions being created by Signature Developments – will help spur growth in the RM.

Nearby, Signature is also the developer of The Yard where the City of Prince Albert’s new pool and twin pad arenas are under construction, a hotel is almost complete, and the frame of a third building has been started.

Schmalz said the RM’s new municipal centre is a symbol of progress and opportunity. Their council took an opportunity when Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP) funding was made available by the Government of Saskatchewan during the pandemic. In total, they got $500,000 towards the construction of the building.

Along with offices and council chambers, the large building also has space that’ll allow crews to better repair equipment.

“Our decision to invest in this subdivision speaks volumes about our aspirations,” said Schmalz. “We want to spread the word that the RM of Prince Albert is open for business.”

Meanwhile, the half-hour ceremony that marked the official opening of the building also mentioned the contribution of Colin Sheldon, a councillor who passed away earlier this year.
