Raiders acquire veteran goaltender Coward in trade with Rebels

The Prince Albert Raiders have added a veteran presence between the pipes for the upcoming season.

On Wednesday morning, the team announced they have acquired 2003-born goaltender Chase Coward from the Red Deer Rebels in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Coward has spent parts of four seasons in Red Deer, posting a 2.66 GAA and a .904 SV% in 45 career games with a 25-23-2-2 record. In 10 career playoff games, the Swift Current product has a 2.65 GAA and a .910 SV% with a 4-5-1-0 record.

The addition of Coward is welcome news to the team after former Raiders netminder Tikhon Chaika signed a trial contract with his hometown Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) last month.

The Green and Gold begin their preseason in Big River on Sept. 6 against the Saskatoon Blades. The regular season gets underway on Sept. 22 when the Raiders welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors to the Art Hauser Centre.
