Fast and furious: 5,370 Sask. drivers ticketed for speeding in July

More than 5,000 drivers ended up with speeding tickets last month after doing their best Vin Diesel impressions on Saskatchewan roads.

According to SGI, a grand total of 5,370 drivers in Saskatchewan were ticketed for speeding or aggressive driving in July, marking the highest total in that category so far this year.

“Summer isn’t the only thing that has been flying by,” SGI said in a statement.

While speed was the focus for SGI last month, police were still out looking for impaired and distracted drivers, and they found quite a few.

According to SGI, 468 impaired driving offences were logged on Saskatchewan’s roadways last month, including 186 charges and 282 administrative suspensions for driving above the provincial limits.

Drivers in the province were also having a hard time putting down their cellphones last month. SGI said 621 drivers were ticketed for using cellphones behind the wheel, out of a total of 739 distracted driving cases.

Police officers around the province also handed out 464 seatbelt tickets last month, SGI noted.
