Nearly 24 hours after a road at Emma Lake was blocked off to traffic, RCMP have confirmed the reason why.

A man was found deceased in an outdoor location at MacIntosh Point.

He has since been identified as Phillip Okemow, 27, from Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

“Based on information gathered to date, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is investigating Philip’s death as a homicide,” RCMP said in a media release which also confirmed that at approximately 10:20 a.m. Monday, Prince Albert RCMP received a report of an unresponsive male.

The Prince Albert RCMP Forensic Identification Services processed the scene and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service has conducted an autopsy.

Residents in the Emma Lake area have been advised there may be an increased police presence as the investigation continues.

“If an increased risk to public safety is identified, we will notify the public,” the RCMP said.

Anyone with information about the circumstances surrounding Phillip’s death, or who saw or had contact with him on the evening of Aug. 20 or the early morning hours of Aug. 21, should contact their local police immediately.
