Demolition underway on P.A.’s National Hotel

Aug 21, 2023 | 2:00 PM

Prince Albert’s National Hotel is looking different each and every day.

The historic building is currently in the middle of being demolished, according to the property’s owner.

The building was constructed 1904 after the Prince Albert Hotel, which used the property first, was destroyed in a fire.

The City of Prince Albert received a demolition permit back in April with crews officially starting work to clear the inside of the building at the end of July.

The property’s owner believes it’ll take a couple of months before the entire building has been torn down and cleared out.

As of Monday, the section of First Avenue West between 11th Street West and River Street was closed off to allow trucks to clear out debris. The intersection of First Avenue West and 10th Street West has also been shut down.

Meanwhile, there are no concrete plans for what will be built in the National Hotel’s place.

The property owner explained there will be a new building constructed, but at this time there’s been no decision on what it will be used for.
