Selander repeats as Men’s Northern Amateur Championship
Cory Selander was crowned champion once again on Monday afternoon after winning the 102nd Men’s Northern Amateur Championship at Cooke Municipal Golf Course.
In the championship round, Selander needed a playoff hole to beat Travis Fehr for the title. This is his second straight year and third time in five years where he’s won the tournament, saying that it’s always an exciting feeling lifting the trophy.
“It’s always fun to win this event,” he said. “You have so many of the best players in the province coming here each long weekend, it really is an honour to win this tournament. Hats off to Travis, we battled in that final but at the end of the day it’s never easy to win this tournament and you know it’s never going to be easy.”
Following the win at Cooke, Selander has a quick turnaround before he’s off to New Brunswick for the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship later this month. He said that this past weekend has been some of the best golf he’s ever played.
