Nipawin fires CAO without cause

Aug 4, 2023 | 11:08 AM

The Town of Nipawin has terminated its contract with CAO Joel Cardinal six months after appointing him to the job.

Council had a special meeting Thursday in which they opted to terminate Cardinal’s contract and appoint long time CAO assistant Michele Sorenson to the job as an interim measure.

“Council felt a change in direction is needed at this time,” said the Town in a statement issued this morning.

In July, Rennie Harper resigned as mayor after council initiated an investigation into her conduct. The decision on when the by-election to replace her will be is on the August 14 regular council agenda.

The report was not made public because of the resignation but the town has received access for information requests.

All projects and services levels will remain normal, says the Town.

The next general municipal election will be held the 2nd Monday of November, 2024.
