Animals caught horsing around after escaping fair grounds

Aug 2, 2023 | 12:03 PM

Residents in Prince Albert’s Midtown area can now say they’ve seen it all.

Early Wednesday morning, a herd of horses was observed running westbound.

Debra Despins, general manager of the Prince Albert Exhibition Association, confirmed the animals escaped from a fenced in area on the fair grounds.

“The good news is they’ve been safely caught and are back on the grounds,” she said.

Acknowledging it would have been a big task to gather the horses, Despins explained they do have some very talented professional chuckwagon racers who are very knowledgeable how to handle horses and large animals.

“I personally wasn’t there to see it but I know it would have been quite a chore to do,” she said.

There were no injuries reported.

Reaction on the Prince Albert Midtown Neighbourhood Watch Facebook group was mostly light-hearted, with one person commenting that at least it happened before morning rush hour, and another saying they thought they were seeing things when they looked at their security camera footage.
