Prince Albert athletes continue to shine this summer as several have come back from an array of championships held this past weekend.

Local athletes claimed top three finishes at the 2023 Canada Cup volleyball tournaments for U16 and U17.

The 16U Boys team from Saskatchewan claimed silver after falling in three straight sets to Team Manitoba. Team Sask included four players from Prince Albert: Thomas Cyr, Matt Lefebvre, Zander Bissky, and Reuben Veith who was named a tournament all-star.

P.A.’s Sydney Bastiuk won a bronze medal with the U16 Team.

Meanwhile, on the U18 side, two Prince Albert players, Luke Mascho and Carter Mullner were a part of the provincial squad that lost out to Team Ontario in the Round of 16, three sets to one.

Sticking with volleyball, four P.A. athletes were a part of the Saskatchewan Volleyball team at the North American Indigenous Games. Saskatchewan claimed gold in the U19 Women’s Final.

Kwyn Tournier, Heidi Regnier, Gracie Flett, and Cassidy Schrader were a part of the team.

FROM ICE TO TRACK

Prince Albert’s Stryker Zablocki, who earlier this month was named to the U18 Hockey Canada Selection Camp, traded in her skates for cleats.

Zablocki competed in the 100-metre sprint at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) U18/U23 Championships in Costa Rica last weekend. She finished seventh overall with a time of 11.86 seconds.

BULLSEYE

Meanwhile, on the archery range, Prince Albert’s Gage Malenfant from the Timberland Bowbenders Archery Club won first place in the Men’s 18U division at the Saskatchewan Outdoor Field and Target Provincial tournament. Malenfant was an alternate for Team Saskatchewan at the recent North American Indigenous Games.
