B.C. port workers will be off the job today getting a briefing on the tentative offer reached with the B.C. Maritime Employers Association.

The association said it’s the same one the International Longshore and Warehouse Union’s rejected, sending workers back to the picket line last week.

Union members are expected to vote on the offer later this week.

They are discussing ways of moving grain by river, road, and rail, and looking at ways to protect prices for EU farmers in countries bordering Ukraine.

The road and rail routes through neighbouring countries have angered local farmers faced with a glut of Ukrainian grain that has driven down prices and hurt their livelihoods.

Alberta livestock and poultry producers impacted by water shortage and drought conditions can receive streamlined temporary livestock water assistance through Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA).

Alternative water sources may include storm water ponds, gravel pits, beaver dams or ponds on non-fish bearing water courses, larger rivers or wetlands, or municipal bulk watering stations.

Producers who have an urgent need for water should contact EPA for support to identify alternative water sources and receive authorization for use under the Water Act.
