Downtown Bike Derby takes over City Hall with games, races, and fun

Jul 22, 2023 | 5:17 PM

The City Hall parking lot in Prince Albert was turned into a bike racing track on Saturday.

The Downtown Bike Derby took over the lot where youth riders had the chance to race in four different categories, including trike, training wheels, two wheelers and teens (13 and 14-year-olds).

Put on by Mike Horn and Fresh Air Experience, PADBID co-executive director Rhonda Trusty helped out with the event where she said the event is always a fun family experience.

“It’s always fun to partner up with Mike,” she said. “The bike derby draws family and friends to the downtown and the atmosphere it brings is always fun and positive.”

This is the second consecutive year that the Downtown Bike Derby has taken over City Hall, but this year’s derby had a few more attractions than in 2022.

Live entertainment was back along with a few other activities for the kids.

“This year we were able to include glitter tattoos and some games for the kids to play while their parents were registering them,” she said. “It’s an opportunity for parents and grandparents to have an afternoon if hanging with their kids and having fun.”

Some of the games included giant checkers as well as giant Jenga.

Both the Prince Albert Police and Fire Department were at the event with a vehicle from each station which were open for tours. PAPS also brought along a radar gun where the kids would test their speed in the Speed Zone.
