More locals win hardware at NAIG as Saskatchewan leads medal count

Team Saskatchewan keeps racking in the medals following day three at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).

From Tuesday to Wednesday, Team Sask. jumped from nine gold medals, 14 silver, and nine bronze to 18 gold, 25 silver, and 22 bronze totalling 65 medals, and counting.

Among those hardware winners were more Prince Albert athletes, including Kayley Clarke who claimed gold in 58kg wrestling. She wasn’t the only wrestler to win a medal as Hailey Mateush took silver in 46kg wrestling, Owen Ferchuk won silver in 130kg wrestling, and Jonah Sanderson won bronze in 52kg wrestling.

Holbein’s Cashian Sandry took home a silver in the high jump before winning gold in the 14U 4×100 relay later that day. La Ronge’s Tyson Bird also claimed gold alongside Sandry in the 4×100 relay.

From the Battlefords area, Dreyten Bugler-Cann and Mikeal Bird both claimed silver in the Male 16U 4×100 relay. Further north from Meadow Lake, Novah Dalke won gold in the Female 14U 4×100 relay and from Île-à-la-Crosse it was Aaliyah Belanger who claimed bronze in the 16U 1200m.

Prince Albert’s Hunter Kajner took home gold in the 16U 4×100 relay and also a silver in the 16U 100m while Olivia Trann won a medal in long-distance running, winning bronze in the 14U 1200m.

Morgan Burns was sitting alone at the top of the podium after she won gold in the triple jump and Muskeg Lake’s Brooklyn Arcand collected silver in the 19U javelin.
