The crease for the Prince Albert Raiders will be looking a bit different this upcoming WHL season.

It was announced late last week that fan favourite Belarusian goaltender Tikhon Chaika has signed a trial contract with Dinamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

Chaika, who hails from Minsk, was first brought to Prince Albert after being selected 53rd overall by the Raiders in the 2021 CHL Import Draft. Since then, he’s been a familiar face between the pipes appearing in 101 career games in the Green and Gold.

In 96 regular season games, the 19-year-old donned a 39-44-3-1 record and registered a 0.899 save percentage with a 3.02 goals against average (GAA). In his more than 5,300 minutes in the blue paint, he stopped 2,373 shots and managed four shutouts. In the playoffs, Chaika played in five games posting a 0.835 save percentage and a 5.58 GAA.

According to Dinamo Minsk’s Twitter, former Raiders forward and Chaika’s teammate Vladislav Shilo also signed a trial contract with the club. Also from Minsk, Shilo was a member of the Raiders to start last season before being traded to the Winnipeg ICE three games into the new season.

Dinamo Minsk made the playoffs last season as an eight seed with a 21-4-2-7-7-27 record (W-OTW-SOW-SOL-OTL-L). Minsk squared off with SKA St. Petersburg in round one of the postseason where they dropped the series 4-2. Dinamo Minsk gets their 2023-24 season underway on Sept. 2 against Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk.
