Another successful season for P.A. Men’s Fastball

Another year has wrapped up for the Prince Albert Men’s Sportsman Fastball League as a champion was crowned on Thursday.

The R&W Custom Collision Pirates won the title beating the Lite Way Electric Jays 6-0.

The Pirates struck early with a lead-off home run by Ryan Bicknell in the first inning of the game which was all the Pirates needed as pitcher Troy Preymack was only allowed four hits and struck out 13 in seven innings.

“We had the top five teams make the playoffs and started on Monday night and wrapped up last night with a couple of close games,” said Acting Commissioner Scott Reed. “The team that finished second overall in the season ended up winning the championship.”

There were six teams competing in the league this past season, which Reed said is the same number they’ve had for many years. He added players were grateful to be playing after the pandemic disrupted seasons in the past.

“We lost a couple years to COVID with everything being shut down so it’s nice to get those teams out and back playing ball,” he said.

With the 2023 campaign finished, Reed said they’re already looking forward to next year and making sure the sport of Fastball continues in P.A.

“We want to continue building with the teams we had this year,” he said. “We want to see more teams play again and get back into men’s fastball. As long as we can keep going with the teams we have then we think we will have a league for a number of years yet.”
