Over $60K raised for new equipment at P.A.’s Victoria Hospital

The Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert is getting over $60,000 to help purchase new medical equipment.

The funds were raised during the Victoria Hospital Foundation’s (VHF) Charity Golf Classic last week at Emma Lake Golf Course.

Cody Barnett, the CEO of the VHF, told paNOW they don’t know exactly what the funds will be used on, only that it will address an immediate need.

“We have an opportunity to look at the needs list that the hospital has put together and talk with all the medical staff and see what the priorities, things you need (now),” he said.

Right now, it’s believed they will be used to provide a dedicated van for the residents in long-term care at the hospital’s attached care homes.

Despite the VHF preparing to fundraise for its biggest project ever, the Victoria Hospital $300 million expansion, these funds are going to be spent right away and won’t be saved.

The Health Foundation and the City of Prince Albert are also still in discussions about what each will be required to raise for the project. After the contributions from the provincial government, around $56 million is still unaccounted.

“That’s the number we’re trying to work out, what the foundation can contribute towards that,” Barnett said.

After that’s determined, the VHF plans on holding several different projects and fundraisers.

“We’ll be undertaking a very comprehensive and intensive fundraising campaign over the next four years,” Barnett added.

Meanwhile, crews have been undergoing geotechnical drilling and utility work in preparation for construction officially starting.

They’ve also been building on a new parking lot as the current one will be lost during the work.
