U.S. road trip, more divisional games highlight Raiders schedule release

The framework has been laid out and the stage is set for the Prince Albert Raiders coming season. Now all that’s left to do is for them to get through training camp, build their roster, and start winning some hockey games.

The team released their full 68-game schedule today, beginning with the home opener against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday, September 22, and ending in Saskatoon on March 23. In between are rivalry games, the first post-pandemic trip to the United States, and a more division-heavy schedule.

Because of the relocation of the Winnipeg ICE, the East Division is down to five teams this season. To make up for the five lost games, the Raiders will face the Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors eight times each (two more than usual) and the Red Deer Rebels one extra time.

There will be no cutting into the usual Highway 11 rivalry, however, as the Raiders will face the Saskatoon Blades 10 times once again this season. The first of those games is the first road game for the Raiders on Sunday, September 24. The Blades make their first appearance at the Art Hauser Centre October 15.

One of the highlights of this schedule is the return of the United States road trip for the first time since the COVID-shortened 19-20 season. The Raiders will make a trip to Lethbridge on November 8 to get partway through the first leg of the trip, then head south of the border.

Starting in Spokane on November 10, the Raiders will make their way through the United States division, wrapping it up with their first ever stop in Wenatchee on November 19, the new home of the former ICE. In between they’ll stop in Tri City, Seattle, Everett, and Portland.

With the Raiders off to the United States, that means the British Columbian teams of the WHL will appear at the Art Hauser Centre. Prince George will be the first of them on November 4. Kamloops and Kelowna will appear there back-to-back on December 12 and 15, followed by Vancouver and Victoria on January 9 and 12.

The Raiders’ remaining divisional opponent, the Regina Pats, will see them the traditional six times this season. The team will play a total of 22 home games on Fridays and Saturdays, and two on Sundays.

The Raiders will make four trips to Alberta (not counting the trip through Lethbridge to the United States).
