Getting mental health support by typing it out

Jun 27, 2023 | 3:25 PM

A new mental health peer support program will give people in the entire Canadian agriculture industry another avenue to get help.

The Do More Agriculture Foundation (Do More Ag) launched AgTalk, powered by Togetherall, at Canada’s Farm Show in Regina, Sask.

Ag Talk provides a safe and anonymous space where anyone 16 year of age or older can connect, share, and receive support from a community of peers who relate to their unique experiences.

Do More Ag Executive Director Megz Reynolds said it can be challenging to acknowledge and seek support for mental health needs as mental health journeys are deeply personal and everyone progresses at their own pace.

“AgTalk is designed to support individuals in their next steps towards improved mental wellbeing, allowing them to share and connect when they are ready,” Reynolds said. “The clinically moderated environment provides an added layer of support and wellbeing for our community.”

The site is monitored by professionals 24/7 to ensure its users can engage in an open and supportive dialogue. Users can also explore resources that are available through the platform.

To participate, the user creates and account. They don’t have to use their real name which ensures anonymity.

The web-based platform was made possible with the support of BASF, RBC, and McCain Foundation.
