Predators wrap up regular season with pair of big wins, turn focus to playoffs

Jun 26, 2023 | 8:00 AM

The Prince Albert Predators ended their regular season this past weekend, and they ended it on a high note.

The Predators hosted the Regina Barracudas for a doubleheader to round out the regular season at Kinsmen Arena where they blew out the visitors 16-6 in game one, then doubled up Regina 18-9 in game two.

Head coach Lucas Wells said he was unable to attend the game but managed to watch them both online. Following the games, he said that he thought his team looked playoff ready.

“Talking to the other coaches, we moved the ball very well, played aggressive on defense and our goalies played really well,” he said. “What I did notice was we played a very complete game. Battle some adversity, that has been a theme for us this year. Trying to find any little inconvenience and using it as ‘adversity’. I thought those were two statement games as we will most likely play Regina in the semifinals this year.”

Now with the regular season done, the Predators finished the campaign with an outstanding record of 10-1-1 and currently sit at the top of the standings. The Swift Current Wolverines have a chance to tie P.A. for first with a win on July 4 against Moose Jaw.

With a two-week break until their first playoff game on July 8, Wells said he has a plan to keep his players loose for the postseason.

“We only have four practices remaining until playoffs,” he said. “The next practice will be more of a fun practice and doing a couple different things that we would never do. After that we only have three practices till playoffs and its back to work. We have had one goal all year and it is to bring the championship back to PA. It won’t be easy, so we need to be prepared.”

As for how the regular season went, the Predators bench boss was excited and proud of his team for their accomplishments.

“Overall it was a very successful regular season,” said Wells. I felt like we improved in all aspects of our game. I’m very happy with how we have progressed throughout the season and now we have a push for the playoffs.”

The regular season for the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League wraps up July 4.
