Residents of Prince Albert and nearby areas had to hunker indoors as rain, hail, and high winds came battering down.

At around 3:17 p.m. Sunday, Environment Canada issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area. Not long after heavy rain started to fall, quickly followed by hail.

Some areas of the city reported marble sized hail that turned green lawns into winter-like scenes.

Viewer submitted photos and videos also showed localized flooding on some city streets.

Meanwhile local storm chaser Shawn Hradac-Bayko watched the storm unfold on radar.

“They were calling for thunderstorms all afternoon, then it started to cloud over and getting dark and then next thing I look at my storm radar and we were in the red for severe thunderstorm watches and warnings,” he said. “Next thing I know we were getting hit with pea size and dime sized hail and it was one storm after another. Never experienced three long hail storms in a row.”

Environment Canada had also put out Thunderstorm Watches for areas outside Saskatoon, Llydminister and the Battlefords.

Right now there’s no official word on how much damage the storm caused.
