Tough going

Outlaws coach reflects on bumpy season

Jun 23, 2023 | 11:05 AM

The road was a rough one for the Prince Albert Outlaws in the 2023 season.

The Blue and Orange finished last in the Senior Division of the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League this season with a 1-7-0 record.

Outlaws Head Coach Lawrence Holizki took some time to reflect on the campaign, calling it a tough season.

“We lost a couple games that I thought we should’ve had,” he said. “It wasn’t a total loss I mean we faced some adversary and still had some tight games. We were missing some guys too so that didn’t help but it’s a new season going forward and hopefully, we’ll have a few more young bodies coming up. It was just a tough season off and on and the guys battled but it just didn’t go our way.”

Across the eight games Prince Albert played, the Outlaws finished with a -48 goal differential and 103 penalty minutes, enough to finish second in that stat.

However, despite the performance on the field, Holizki said that the season was still a win off the field.

“Some of the stuff that we did with the kids and the local programs during the minor tournament we had a skills competition for the kids,” he explained. “Lots of our guys are coaching which to me is a win. To see those guys giving back and helping out in the younger programs and teaching them what they know, it also makes my guys better in the long run. With them coaching, they kind of understand more so what we’re looking at or what I have to do.”

When asked if he’ll be back behind the bench in 2024, he didn’t hesitate to give an answer.

“Oh yeah, I’ll go back behind the bench,” Holizki said excitedly. “I got a couple of young players coming up who committed so the future is looking bright.”

The Outlaws wrapped up their season last week and will hit the floor again next Spring.
